Right around where the cyclist is, the grade becomes slightly less steep, but still not easy. At that point, one can relax, just a bit, and realize that all they have to do is pedal a bit more and they have it made. But, getting there? A real accomplishment! A very tough climb.
If memory serves, the grade is still high — maybe 10%? But it feels like 5% after the brutality that you’ve just completed. It is unquestionably a real accomplishment.
